Just after midnight on Friday, a Weld County Sheriff’s deputy tried to stop a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse for a traffic violation as the car was headed north on Interstate 25 near Mead, according to a Weld County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Instead of stopping, the Mitsubishi took off, leading the sheriff’s office on a short chase that ended near Weld County Road 34 and the east I-25 frontage road, the sheriff’s office said.

The driver, 22-year-old Dakota Austin Huscher, was taken into custody.

“Due to several indications of possible criminal activity, a search of the vehicle was conducted,” the sheriff’s office said.

When authorities combed the Mitsubishi, they discovered a whole slew of drugs — mostly mushrooms — including: 10.4 grams of methamphetamines; 14 ounces of marijuana; 172.7 grams of mushrooms; 24.9 grams of heroin; 19.1 grams of cocaine; 4.8 grams of LSD; and 9.2 grams of marijuana concentrate.

The sheriff’s office also found a loaded handgun and a sawed-off shotgun in the car.

Huscher, of Colorado Springs, was charged with unlawful distribution of a controlled substance; possession of a schedule 1 substance; two counts of possession of a scheduled 2 substance, possession of more than 12 ounces of marijuana; vehicular eluding; possession of a weapon by previous offender; violation of a protection order; driving while motor vehicle license was revoked; displayed fictitious plates; and speeding.

Huscher was booked into the Weld County North Jail Complex.

Huscher’s passenger, 18-year-old Baylee Kathleen Beauchamp, was arrested on a failure to appear warrant out of the Fort Collins Police Department. Beauchamp was also booked into the Weld County North Jail Complex.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Weld County Sheriff’s Office at 970-356-4015 or crime tip line at 970-304-6464.
